SKIN CARE ADVERTISINGArticles

The skin care industry is huge – look at the number of magazine and TV adverts that we are bombarded with – each offering flawless perfection. So why aren’t we all flawless and perfect? I dread to think how much money I have spent trying all these products and they really didn’t make much difference – but maybe the next one will…….. Have you ever wandered why women’s magazines don’t ever say anything negative about these products in their beauty articles? They daren’t – they might lose advertising revenue.

If you stop to think about it – nature is pretty clever so do you honestly think that your skin was so badly designed that it needs scrubbing or exfoliating. Piling rich creams onto your skin only makes it lazy – there is no stimulus for the skin to balance itself and YOU CAN’T REMOVE A WRINKLE WITH A CREAM – there I said it and a bolt of lightening hasn’t struck me down (but don’t tell L’Oreal where I live).

Skin care advertisements are carefully worded and checked by teams of lawyers to ensure they aren’t actually claiming anything they can’t prove. So they use terms like “improves the appearance of wrinkles”. Think about what that actually means – the wriinkle looks a bit better than it did previously – wow!

I stopped being seduced by the word “firming” on a pot of cream a few years ago. I also don’t want to have “healthy looking skin” I want genuinely healthy skin.
